With samples returning gold grades as high as 730 ounces per tonne over a 6km x 200m footprint, Mawson’s undrilled Rompas project is arguably the most exciting exploration-stage gold discovery in the world today.
The Metal Augmentor Take »
Mawson’s Rompas project in Finland boasts a large alternation zone that has sampled extremely high gold and uranium values. This is a very unique situation with real potential to discover a world-class bonanza gold asset. There are risks to the mineral claims and Mawson hasn’t yet gained permission to drill its highest priority targets. However, initial drilling on private lands should provide plenty of hints about the subsurface geology.

In the closing stages of 2012 Mawson mobilised a drill rig to start a campaign at North Rompas. In our view the North Rompas target has the greatest potential to support a resource model. The gold distribution at North Rompas is less complex than at Central and South Rompas and earlier trenching and channel sampling results suggest there is lateral continuity to the high grade gold veins in the area. The first stage of the drilling at North Rompas will be complete in Q1’13 and if the initial results are successful, we expect Mawson to sustain the drilling rate in the area until a maiden resource estimate is achieved. At Rajapalot Mawson is still in the target generation phase and will conduct ground and airborne geophysical surveys to get a better picture of the subsurface geology. This will lead into an initial drilling campaign some time in 2013. Mawson also plans to return to South Rompas to follow up on the high grade hits drilled during 2012.
