From our conversation with Dr. Peter Megaw in early 2011 it seemed to us that he’s genuinely excited about the discovery potential at both La Negra and Shafter, an important aspect of the valuation equation given what are currently limited mine lives. He views both as highly perspective carbonate replacement systems with large footprints that have seen virtually no exploration. Large areas of these limestone belts are located under pediment which means that a comprehensive exploration program is needed to evaluate the potential to host major new silver/base metal deposits.
There is still execution risk at the Shafter project (Aurcana’s key valuation driver), and we plan to conduct a site visit soon to better evaluate the likelihood of a smooth transition from development to production during 2012.
