Ever wonder where to go to get a comprehensive mining news feed or a complete history of insider activity for a particular company of interest?
Mining News Feed
Thanks to Chris Mullen of www.gold-seeker.com we recently became aware of a Yahoo! mining news feed that appears to be pretty comprehensive (the best we’ve found) as it combines all Marketwire, PR Newswire, Business Wire, and GlobeNewswire feeds for mining and metals company news.
It’s not perfect. There’s some junk that inevitably finds its way in. And it’s probably not going to contain press releases that aren’t intended for U.S. distribution (e.g. financing related), but in our experience those can be difficult to find anywhere besides Stockwatch (sometimes they don’t even appear on a company’s own website!).
One of the things we have been working on at Metal Augmentor is to create and manage our own custom RSS feed for mining company and metals news but for now the Yahoo! mining news feed will be our go-to destination for monitoring mining news. When we do integrate a mining news feed on our website, it should make our Mining News Review function more robust — for example allowing subscribers to flag news that they would like us to comment on.
Insider Trading Activity
It’s true that investors are freely able to see the last 10 filings of insiders at Canadian Insider, or even better the last 6 months of activity after creating an account (I do not recall this being an option in the past). But often we’re left wanting more, that is without having to shell out $1,000/year for an INK Research subscription. No doubt there are plenty of excellent features for INK subscribers (we have been one in the past) — a practical solution to the SEDI monster if you will — but since we still haven’t figured out how to grow money on trees, the $1,000 price tag is too steep even for us. Enter InvestorPoint which provides a complete history of insider activity and much more information that might not be available on other sites.
It’s a bit tricky to navigate to the InvestorPoint insider activity area, so here’s a brief how-to guide:
- Enter the company’s symbol in the “Get Quote” box followed by a “:CA” (assuming it’s a Canadian listed company).
- Click on “Insiders” tab.
- Click on “All Insider Activity for XXX:CA” at bottom.
And there you have it. It’s even sortable by insider and transaction type! We don’t know how comprehensive or accurate the list is but it seemed to be complete for a few companies we checked.
We will be integrating the InvestorPoint insider activity page for each company in our Company Index, which is going to see a lot of activity in the weeks ahead. The Company Index will be the first place you’ll want to go to check on latest updates on mining companies including our opinion on the stock, news reviews, due diligence links and more.
We hope you’ve enjoyed this brief “Best Kept Secrets” guide. You can find some of our other favorite mining, monetary and investing links on the right sidebar under “Info Links”. We invite subscribers to use the comments section to share their own personal favorite links and resources.

Equedia offers same info as InvestorPoint it appears:

I like the format and navigation better.
@amarkscpa
Yeah you’re right and it seems InvestorPoint is getting its own data from there!
Great find David and it looks like an automatic feed as well given that the data is just as up to date as Ink Research.
Ink indeed offers some additional features as seeing all holdings of an insider, daily/weekly/monthly screening, making player’s lists + e-mail alerts and such, but for the basic needs Investorpoint is great.
These will be very useful. Thanks for the heads-up.
I just created a custom RSS feed using Yahoo! Pipes that successfully combines all mining news from Marketwire, PR Newswire, GlobalNewswire and the CNW Group:
http://pipes.yahoo.com/pipes/pipe.run?_id=a18737b3b3b2c82e17f9380fcd6ca65c&_render=rss
I’ve also added it to the Investment links section in the right sidebar.
The only problem is that Yahoo! Pipes doesn’t like something about my Business Wire news feed. Very frustrating, but for now I guess we can just check it directly:
http://www.businesswire.com/portal/site/home/news/industry/?vnsId=31083
Once the Business Wire kink is worked out our feed will be an extremely comprehensive source for mining company news. Meanwhile, if anyone is aware of other news outlets to add to this feed, please let us know.
